cherry A small stone fruit from a tree of the Prunus genus, grown in temperate climates worldwide; there are two principal types: sour and sweet; both types are generally available fresh, dried, canned and frozen.
Cherry Stone Clams Part of the hard-shell or quahog clam family. It's shell is grayish white in color, has an oval shape, and a purplish border around it's ventral margin. Typically it is around 21/2 to 3 inches in width. Often used for clam fritters or stuffed clams.
cherry tomato A small spherical tomato with a bright red or yellow skin; the yellow-skinned variety has a less acidic and blander flavor than the red-skinned variety.
maraschino cherry 1. A cherry marinated in maraschino liqueur and used for garnishing cocktails, desserts and baked goods. 2. A pitted cherry macerated in a flavored sugar syrup and dyed red or green; used for the same purposes as a traditional cherry.
