Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Sprinkle roast with salt, pepper and cinnamon. Rub into meat. Place on rack in baking pan, fat side up. Bake 3 to 3 1/2 hours (25 minutes to pound). Place pears and sweet potatoes around meat. Continue baking until pears and potatoes are done. Spoon off fat. In small saucepan, melt butter. Add brown sugar, syrup, cloves and nutmeg.
Blend well. Combine cornstarch with water, stir into sugar mixture until smooth. Heat to boiling, stirring constantly to prevent lumping. Pour hot syrup over pears and potatoes to glaze. Continue baking for 30 to 45 minutes. Be sure potatoes are tender.
